"Although we live in a global economy, we do not benefit from the lessons learned in work-life from other countries as we should. One of the unique exceptions is the (Aequus Partners’) Diversity & Flexibility email news. We in the US look forward to this newsletter because it contains not only news of advances in Australia, but also because it includes succinct and insightful analysis. It is a real treasure." Ellen Galinsky, President, Families and Work Institute
Aequus Partners Diversity and Flexibility e-newsletters
October 2008 - The relationship between well-being and workplace practices
- US research: The effects of workplace flexibility on health behaviours: a cross-sectional and longitudinal analysis. This research examines the link between workplace flexibility and five dimensions of health and well-being. The researchers, from Wake Forest University of Medicine, found that sleep, exercise and whether one perceives that they are living a healthy lifestyle are significantly related to perceived flexibility in their organisation.
- AUS report: A close look at work/life balance and well-being in the Victorian commercial building and construction sector. This report explores how an intensely competitive industry, which relies on being able to complete work in the shortest possible timeframe and at the best price, is resulting in negative effects for employee well-being. A series of recommendations are outlined for organisations, government and unions to work together to improve this situation.
- Upcoming events: Conferences in the UK and AUS in November on stress, mental health and well-being.
- Forthcoming publication: Non-standard work schedules and family well-being.. This paper, from Pennsylvania State University, explores how weekend and night work affects the worker, their family and daily stress.
